Go Bears
I had the good fortune of attending the NCAA Men’s Tournament Regionals here in Dallas Friday night thanks to my good friend Roxy Bernstein who is the radio play-by-play voice for the #7 seeded University of California men’s basketball team (that’s him at his courtside broadcast position under the big red arrow). After leading 29-25 at the half against #10 seeded N.C. State, the Bears couldn’t catch a break in the second half as they weren’t able to establish anything down low and the refs called what seemed to be a completely different game in the second half. Pupdate
We visited Dr. Sharp on Monday to get the whole Carfax report on Lola and he thinks that she is between 2 1/2 or 3 years old, is part Brittany not Wemaraner, and her pelvis is still broken but that it has healed somewhat and that the bones have fixed themselves so she’s not in any pain. Dr. Sharp did recommend a 2nd opinion with an orthopedic surgeon about maybe putting a plate in there to fix it, but he said he’s seen cases like this in other dogs and they’re fine. More pupdates as they come through.
3/21: We’ve just returned from a consultation with Dr. Bertrand, an orthopedic specialist, and he says that Lola is going to be fine. He’s amazed at how well she has recovered a mere 9 weeks after suffering multiple pelvic fractures, none of which require surgery to fix. He thinks operating would do more harm than good since she’s walking just fine and able to put weight on her back legs without any sign of pain or lameness. He wants us to keep her exercise restricted for the next 4 weeks, then after that “she’s good to go”. He said that if any health problems (colon blockage, internal obstructions) were going to happen that they would have shown up by now or within the next two months and not further down the road. Thanks for the good news, Dr. Bertrand.

“Pride and Prejudice”

I have to preface my review with this caveat: the sound mixing on the DVD we rented absolutely sucked. The dialogue was so low that we had to crank the tv almost to the max, and then in the following scene there would be music and it would blast us out of the room. In one of the pivotal final scenes that takes place in the rain, we had no clue what was being said because the sound of the rain was so dominant (yes, it drowned out the dialogue).
Given the sound calamity, I can’t give this more than a middle of the road review. I thought Donald Sutherland and Brenda Blethyn were great as Keira Knightley’s parents, but I didn’t think Knightley’s performance was Oscar worthy.
Melinda probably felt differently, and if she decides to rebut with her own review I’ll post it.

No commentsWelcome Home!

After a long day of waiting, we passed the home visit with flying colors and got to bring Lola home last night. We took her to Petsmart for a bath and picked up some toys and food for her. She is so shy, but not skiddish as she’ll let people pet her and not back away.
We think she might have been someone else’s dog before we got her as she’s housebroken and when we showed her the pet bed we got for her she immediately went to it and slept there all night. She’s knows it is a safe spot for her as she will retreat back there after exploring the house little by little.
We also found out that her accident was in January, so she’s less than 2 months from having her pelvis broken. I have posted (and will continue to I’m sure) pictures in the gallery. The ones with the car are when we dropped her records off at the vet and she was ready to get in the car, but I wasn’t.

So we’re out to lunch with my sister today and Melinda decides to run down the way to pick some stuff up for the Oscar party tomorrow night and I get a text message that says “don’t come down here if you don’t want to see dogs.” Apparently the Frisco Humane Society was at PetSmart with dogs for adoption. Since Elvis passed away in January we haven’t been looking for a dog, but we had decided when the time was right, and we knew we had found the right dog, then we would do it. When I got there, Melinda was hanging around outside (which she never does at these things) and had pointed out some Austrailian Sheppard mixes, and then pointed me to…
Review: Dave Chappelle’s Block Party
Going to the movies as often as we do, I thought I would start offering my own reviews here for you.
“Dave Chappelle’s Block Party”
Run Time: 1:43
On September 18, 2004, comedian Dave Chappelle threw a secret block party in New York, but there was a trick – if you wanted to go you had to register online, wait in Chinatown for a bus to transport you to a secret location and there was no information on who was performing once you got there. Upon arrival in Brooklyn, concertgoers where treated to stellar performances by Chappelle and some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B: Kanye West, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Common, Mos Def, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Dead Prez, and a reunion of The Fugees who hadn’t performed together since 1997.
