Week 18: American Airlines can eat me
Yeah, I said it — EAT ME.
Sometimes, booking 2 weeks in advance is a good thing and allows me to snag a low fare. However, the flip side is booking 2 weeks in advance not knowing that you will be having a 4:30 pm show…..and a 5:55 pm return flight. After several phone calls and discussions of alternatives, I was forced to stick with my 5:55 flight and miss this week’s show. Had I known the schedule in advance this problem would have never arisen, but it was either come home as planned, pay $750 extra to take the red-eye, or leave Tuesday morning at 6:00 am for $100.

I want to start of by saying thank you to everyone for the input and response to last week’s Q & A. I appreciate everyone taking the time to check it out and to send in their thoughts. As I keep getting more questions, I’ll throw them up here. Now, on to week 17…
I have to admit, there were some nerves going into this weekend and Level 3. It could either be the end of the line for me, or the calm before the Level 4 & 5 storms.
With last week off, I forgot to book my flight in time so I burned 90,000 frequent flier miles and had to go first class. Ouch.
No commentsThe off-week Q & A
With no trip to LA this weekend, I decided to answer some of the questions I regularly get asked from friends, emails and comments I’ve received here on the site. So, in no particular order, here are the most common questions I get asked, or have been asked by email/website/carrier pigeon/smoke signal:
Q: You fly to LA every weekend? Why?
A: Yes, I do. I am in the Second City Improv Conservatory Program (Level 3) and my class is on Sundays from noon to 3:00. Yes, I fly 6 hours round-trip for a 3 hour class. I leave Saturdays at 5:00 pm and return Sundays either stand by on the 5:10 pm or take my scheduled 5:55 pm flight, depending on how traffic treats me getting to the airport (discussed below).
Lola: one year later

Left - The day after we brought her home, shaved down, her bones showing, and afraid of everything imaginable. She wouldn’t leave the bedroom unless she absolutely had to eat or go outside, and never made a sound. She didn’t even go upstairs until 5 months ago.
Right - At the dog park today, tail wagging, tongue out and going nuts with Rocky. She sleeps in the bed with us sometimes, ventures all around the house and is quite the talker.
Thanks again to Daryl and the Frisco Humane Society.

So, last week my travel was delayed due to the high winds and caused me to stay in LA a day. Well, this week I was delayed again, but only for a hour. I eventually got on the plane…only to get right off 20 minutes later due to “bad fuel lines”. The captain himself stood at the front of the plane and told us all about the bad fuel lines and how American strives to be on time blah, blah, blah. The joke’s on him because my flight delayed 3 hours….due to a bad fuse. That’s 2 weeks in a row. Ugh.
